Notes
General:
GENERAL NOTES: Laurence Searle, was Lucy's father. one of the Queen's Sgts at Arms. It would appear that Lucy was at first married to John Campion, buried St.Andrews Holborn, London on the 8.10.1576, educated at the Middle Temple, and had a daughter Rose and a son called Thomas Campion born 12.02.1567 [died 29.2.1620], who served as a soldier 1591 for the Earl of Essex and Henry of Navarre vs French Catholics.
Thomas apparently tutored under mastership of Andrew Perne [Dean of Ely] at Peterhouse Cambridge from 1581, until 22.4.1586, but left without a degree. The Two Thomas', Thomas Campion and Thomas Sisley the [step]sons of Augustine Steward's first and second wives [both widows] were taught together, as of a similar age.
Augustine Steward therefore married Lucy between 1577-79, before marrying Anne Argall 26.1.1581.

"On Tuesday, at Treworgans, in the parish of Cubert, on the body of Mr. William SEARLE, aged 78 of Traffel, in the parish of Newlyn. The deceased had ridden over to Treworgans on Monday morning, and had employed himself the greater part of the day in fitting up a cattle house for his tenant, Mrs. CARVOLTH. At about four o'clock in the afternoon, Mrs. Carvolth, on passing the house, saw him lying prostrate on the ground and called one of the farm labourers to go to him; and it was then found that he was quite dead. Deceased had been remarkably well all the day, and up to within ten minutes of his being found as above stated. He had just given some directions about his horse. Verdict, "apoplexy." The deceased was a very charitable man, and was generally much esteemed in the neighbourhood."

PROBATE: His Will was proved in 1850, when he left the houses for the use of the poor of the parish.

Ironwood News-Record (Ironwood, Michigan) - 14 May 1898, Sat. (Page 17):

KATE NELSON MARRIED - Mayor E. D. Nelson informs the News-Record of the marriage during the present week of his daughter, Kate, to Mr. A.K. Sedgwick of Ishpeming. It appears the young couple saw fit to circumvent Mr. Nelson's desire to have them wait two years, and took matters into their own hands and were quietly married Wednesday. The bride's sister, Miss Frances Nelson, witnessed the ceremony. The Misses Nelson had arranged to visit Chicago and Cleveland, Miss Frances with school friends in Cleveland, and Miss Kate with Mr. and Mrs. C--------at Chicago. We are permitted to quote the following from a letter from Miss Frances Nelson to her father:
"I was just beginning to wonder how we should manage in Chicago if our friends did not meet us, when Mr. Sedgwick came upon us. The first thought was that the Chicago anxieties are over; but you may imagine my unspeakable surprise when they both told me they were going to be married and I could agree or disagree. I was powerless to deter them from their course, so I made the most of a bad situation and witnessed the ceremony".
Mr. Sedgwick is personally well known in the News-Record, and while the customs of society, are somewhat fractured in this instance, we venture to heartily congratulate all the parties to this pretty little romance. The bride is one of Ironwood's fairest daughters, is handsome and accomplished, and we congratulate Mr. Sedgwick. The groom is a very fine appearing young man of twenty-five, a graduate of Yale, a lawyer of admitted ability, and gives promise of a bright future. He was in Ironwood with the Ishpeming football team last fall, and acted as referee during the game played with our boys, and he is well and favorably known to a large number of people in this city.
